Brief IntroductionHarshada Khanvilkar is a popular Indian actress, who has worked in various Hindi and Marathi serials. Currently, she is portraying the role of Akka Saheb on Star Pravah’s popular show ‘Pudhcha Paul’.Early Life & BackgroundHarshada Khanvilkar was born in a joint family in Cotton Greens in Mumbai. She was very close to her father, but she lost him 13 years back. Her father used to work in Siemens and her mother was a teacher. She has younger sister name Archana.
She is very close to her nephew Kushal.Harshada completed her schooling from King George, Dadar. Then, she completed her graduation from Kirti College, Mumbai. She has also studied one year of law from Ruparel College, Mumbai. Since childhood, she dreamt about being an actress.First assignment/ First major breakHarshada’s debuted on television in the Hindi serial ‘Daard’, however, she became popular among the Marathi audience after the serial ‘Damini’.Journey in the industryAt the end of her graduation year, Harshada’s family friend clicked her photos, which were printed on ‘Women’s Era’ Magazine’s cover page.
Those photographs were seen by actress Neena Gupta who was coming up with a new show ‘Daard’. She called Harshada and asked her to come for the auditions. Her father encouraged her, and she gave her audition successfully. The show was aired on Doordarshan and she played the role of Gurprit’s sister.After ‘Dard’, Harshada opted for law to complete her education. In Ruparel College, for the first time, she started acting in plays. In the same year, she acted in an episodic story of Mansingh Pawar, as they wanted a modern girl. At the same time, Vijay Gokhale was searching a modern English speaking girl for his play ‘Khel Thoda Vel’.
She acted in that play along with Neena Kulkarni, Reema Lagoo and Kuldeep Pawar. When she was working for this play, she gave the audition for the Marathi’s first daily soap ‘Damini’. She got selected and portrayed the role of a modern college going daughter of Kuldeep Pawar. While working for ‘Damini ‘, she came to know that she wants to be an actress. She left her law practice to pursue her acting career.After ‘Damini’, her mother was quite disappointed with her as she had left her education for acting and she wasn’t talking to her for almost 6 months. However, her father supported her a lot and encouraged her to do want she feels was right. In 1999, she gave audition for ‘Aabhalmaya’, which was the first daily soap of a Marathi independent channel.
She worked along with Sukhanya Kulkarni. She considered ‘Aabhalmaya’ as her turning point in her career, as from this show onwards she started focusing on being a successful actress in the industry.Along with Damini, she was also acting in the serial ‘GharKul’, where she was shown as a mother of an 18 year old daughter. Then, she did a comedy show ‘Uchapati’ with Kavita Lad and Prashant Damle. She played the role of Aasawari Joshi’s step-daughter in the serial ‘Kimayagar’. After Kimayagar, she became a producer. She produced the popular Marathi soap ‘Bedhund Manachi Laher’ along with Sanjay Jadhav for ETV Marathi.
Then, she co-produced ‘Kya Baat Hai’ for Zee Marathi.During her journey in ‘Damini’, Harshada has done many episodic Hindi serials for Adhikari Brothers. She has played episodic in serials like ‘All The Best’, ‘Commander’ and so on. In Hindi, her major role was in the serial ‘Astitva Ek Prem Kahani’, starring Niki Walia and Varun Badola.
She has played the supporting role of a servant named Shaguna, which was quite popular among masses. She also acted in Sahara One’s serial ‘Ek Chutki Aasmaan’.After being a producer, she once again started acting in Marathi serials. She played a negative role for the first time in the popular serial ‘Oon Paus’. The show was produced by Smita Talwalkar and used to air on Zee Marathi. Later, she once again played a vamp named Kamini Abhankar in Zee Marathi’s serial ‘Kalat Nakalat’. Then, she was roped in Balaji Telefilms most popular show ‘Mazhiya Priyala Prit Kalena’ for Zee Marathi.
Later, she acted in few more soaps before playing the role of Akka Saheb in Star Pravah’s ‘Pudhacha Paul’. She has also done promotional shows for Star Pravah’s ‘Pudhacha Paul’.
